Rectal Extrusion of a Lumboperitoneal Shunt Catheter: Case Report
نویسنده
چکیده
A 59 year old woman was admitted to hospital in January 1989. She had difficulty in walking and urinary incontinence for three months. Examination disclosed spastic paraparesis and gait ataxia. No demential sign was found. Computerized tomography showed ventricular dilatation. The symptoms and signs. computed tomography (CT)findings and other investigations confirmed the diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus. A lumboperitoneal

متن کاملMicrolaparoscopic-Assisted Lumboperitoneal Shunt in the Lateral Position for Pseudotumor Cerebri in a Morbidly Obese Adolescent
BACKGROUND Pseudotumor cerebri or idiopathic intracranial hypertension is a known complication of morbid obesity that often requires neurosurgical intervention for worsening symptoms. Placement of a lumboperitoneal shunt (LPS) is one of the treatment options, but in a morbidly obese patient it can be technically challenging. We describe the use of 3-mm instrumentation for assistance in placing ...
متن کاملSpontaneous extrusion of migrated ventriculoperitoneal shunt catheter through chest wall: a case report.
Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt is the most commonly performed procedure for the management of hydrocephalus. VP shunt related complications remain a persistent problem in clinical practice. However, extrusion of components of shunt apparatus is very rare. Extrusion of ventriculo-peritonea l(VP) shunt catheter is an unusual complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt Surgery. The authors report ...
متن کاملUnusual Migration of the Distal Catheter of a Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt into the Vagina
Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt is one of the most common pediatric neurosurgical procedures. It has various complications that may have serious consequences such as shunt dysfunction, and unusual migration. Although, migration of shunt catheter to bladder, heart, umbilicus, rectum, pulmonary artery, and stomach has been reported, migration to vagina is a rare one.In this report we present a 16...
متن کاملA New Mechanism of Cerebrospinal Fluid Leakage after Lumboperitoneal Shunt: A Theory of Shunt Side Hole—Case Report
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) overdrainage after lumboperitoneal (LP) shunt placement for the patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is mainly caused by insufficient management of pressure settings of the shunt valve and/or siphon effect of shunt systems induced by the patient's postural changes. We here report a unique case of intracranial hypotension (IH) due to CSF leakage...
